The educational complex, situated in Be’er Sheva’s new Sigaliyot neighborhood, on the city’s outskirts, bordering the desert and in close proximity to the Agricultural Farm, Negev Zoo, and Kfar Raphael rehabilitative community, will be an exceptional facility with a sustainability focus.
The Education Department of the Beer Sheva Municipality aimed to strengthen children’s connection to the environment, foster acceptance of others, and promote excellence. To achieve this, they established a unique school that embraces the Montessori education approach. The architectural design translates the city’s aspirations into the physical realm through several planning principles and concepts:
Sustainable Adaptation to Climate, Environment, and Topography: The school is designed as a low-lying structure with a perforated canopy, creating open courtyards with water features, cooling elements, and vegetation. This design provides a distinctive learning environment with a sustainable climate orientation, facilitating relaxation, concentration, and optimal cognitive performance.
Physical Connection to the Western Sites: The project includes a picturesque pedestrian bridge extending from the school, ensuring the safe passage of children across the infrastructure strip to the agricultural farm area. This bridge encourages the integration between the children and the agricultural farm, the zoological garden, and Kfar Raphael.
Implementation of the Montessori Method: In addition to classrooms, the school features various dedicated spaces for excellence, leadership, and social engagement, in line with the Montessori method.
